Don Valley Railway are working in collaboration with the recently formed South Yorkshire Woodhead Heritage Railway Group.

We will continue in our aims to campaign for and deliver the reopening of passenger services on the currently freight-only rail line between Stocksbridge and Sheffield, whilst they will work on heritage rail projects.

An initial collaboration is to look at if there are possibilities of keeping the recently closed St Mathias Church in Stocksbridge (which backs onto the line) as a possible Station site via a shared community use.

South Yorkshire Woodhead Heritage Railway Group held their inaugural meeting at the Venue, Manchester Road, Stocksbridge on Thursday 16th August. Don Valley Railway hope this will be a spur to once again get passenger traffic back on the old Woodhead line.
